[Knitting] Summer Sweater Whitecaps [Vjazhi.ru] [Yumiko Alexander]
A stylish and comfortable summer sweater with a unique texture pattern.
This summer sweater is knitted from the bottom up, designed by Yumiko Alexander.
Although unusual, the sweater is not difficult to knit and features a simple texture pattern created with knit, purl, and slipped stitches. The bulk and overall texture are produced by alternating yarn thickness: some sections (rows) are done with a single strand, others – with two strands. The body of the sweater is worked from the bottom up in separate parts, straight, without any shaping, then shoulder seams are performed and sleeves are knitted from top to bottom, ending with a gathered edge. Side seams are completed at the end of the work.
The designer provides instructions for three sizes. Depending on what fit you want, choose the size based on the final chest circumference. The length of the sweater is adjustable. The designer recommends 3 length options, but you can knit the sweater to any length you desire. There are instructions provided on how to do this.
Final chest circumference of the sweater: 112 [124.5, 137] cm. Recommended ease: 10 cm or more.
Length (when laid flat), 3 options: 51 cm or 57 cm or 63.5 cm.
Sleeve length can also be adjusted to your preference. You can knit this sweater sleeveless, make a recommended length sleeve, or any other length as you see fit. The sweater's design implies a gathered lower part of the sleeve. But you can make a wide kimono-style sleeve. Recommendations on how to do this are provided in the description.
Yarn: DanDoh, Silk + (76% silk, 24% cotton; 208 m in 50 g).
Yarn consumption: For the 51 cm length version: 1017 [1107, 1206] m. For the 57 cm length version: 1112 [1206, 1314] m. For the 63.5 cm length version: 1206 [1314, 1422] m.
You can select another summer yarn that allows you to achieve the specified knitting density.
Knitting density: 16 sts. х 20 rows = 10 cm in stockinette stitch, with ONE strand, using 5.5 mm needles, after blocking.
The sweater is easy to knit. The author provides a detailed instruction with photo materials and suggestions on how to perform basic knitting techniques. First, the back and front are knitted (separately), then shoulder seams are done, stitches for sleeves are picked up. Sleeves themselves are knitted in stockinette stitch with short rows until the bottom. Side seams (mattress stitch) are performed at the end of the work.
